How did you start watching lakorns?
I was introduced to lakorns at a very young age however, it wasn’t until 2000 that I started following up on the Thai industry. I lost interest midway until 2010 when I randomly stumbled upon 4 Hua Jai Haeng Khon Khao on YT. To my surprise, I was captivated by Yaya’s performance in Duangjai Akkanee and she’s the one who rekindled my interest in lakorns once again.
Your all time favorite lakorn?
It would probably have to be Tam Hua Jai Pai Sood Lah although both the 1999 adaption of Ngao Asoke and Ka Neung Ha comes close. Willy and Mew’s chemistry was top notch and the storyline held my interest for beginning to end.
Your least favorite lakorn?
Hands down, it would be Ruk Lae Sanae Luang. Every aspect about that lakorn was pathetic IMHO. The storyline was sickening and unoriginal, the directing was terrible with many inconsistencies, and the editing was a nightmare jumping from one random scene to the next. The acting in general wasn’t the best as I’ve seen better performances from Weir and Mai. I don’t even know why Ch7 remade this lakorn in the first place since it’s not even worthy of another adaptation lol. Originally, I thought Ngao Ruk Luang Jai was a bad lakorn but this one takes the cake.
Your favorite lakorn OST?
This one is hard. In terms of period lakorns, my favourite OST would be Tae Bang Korn and for modern it would be Duang Jai Akkanee. The soundtracks matched their respective lakorns wonderfully.
The last lakorn you watched?
Suphap Buroot Jathathep series.
What lakorn are you currently watching?
Bodygaurd Sao and I’m loving it so far! Sammy totally kicks butt. I’m also watching Samee 2013 and it’s not bad so far. I didn’t care for the original version so perhaps that’s why I like the way this new version is taking a different route.
A lakorn you looked forward to but disappointed you in the end?
Pathapee Leh Rak – I didn’t care much for Thara Himilai although it was decent and completely loved Duang Jai Akaanee so I expected the third segment to be just as good if not better then the previous segments. My main issue with the lakorn is the way it was directed. The producer and director focused too much on the supporting casts who were all annoying and I saw zero chemistry between the main leads.
Jam Loey Rak – This is one of those super popular lakorns that everyone raves about and I happen to be one of the few who didn’t jump on that bandwagon. I felt no chemistry between Umm and Aff and the story was too basic for my liking. I actually had to fast-forward a good 60% of it because it just didn’t interest me to say the least.
A lakorn you started without expectations but loved it in the end?
I’ll have to cheat and name two lakorns.
Plerng Toranong – I didn’t actually watch it when it first aired but after finishing all the other lakorns from the 4+1 Superstar promotion, I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it and I believe it deserves more recognition. Many people hated Taew as Numfon but in all honesty, I think people just don’t know how to differentiate between an actress taking on an annoying role and an actress with annoying tendencies in their acting. Numfon wasn’t intended to be likeable in the beginning and she redeemed herself midway. For someone who normally plays a weak nang aek, Taew really nailed it and showcased her versatility. My only complaint would be the actress who plays Aof’s and Noey’s mom who overacts too too much. I literally cringed whenever she raised her voice 555.
Kularb Rai Glai Rak – I initially began watching this with no expectations but in the end, I got more than I ever thought. The storyline is definitely right up my alley, unpredictable with realistic characters and touches upon some aspects of Thai society. The acting in here was superb! Matt portrayed her character of Nade to a T and I don’t think anyone in her generation could have done better. And wow! Gale is such a versatile supporting actress who can play anything! Both ladies gave awesome performances!
Preferred lakorn type (revenge, slap/kiss, boran, romcom etc)?
I don’t really have a particular preference; it all depends on how the lakorn is executed. I can watch any lakorn as long as it’s well delivered. Generally though, I’m not a big fan of slap/kiss lakorns because they’re very cliché and predictable.
Favorite male/female character?
Cheating once again 555.
Kamote from Ploy Lom Phet – He was the ultimate praek who was a bit alpha but was still loving and kind. He didn’t allow his suspicions of the nang aek to blind his heart and conscious. Deep inside he always loved the nang aek and was like the shining knight in armor to save her from many circumstances. Oh and Bee Sawis? He makes my heart melt lol.
Seau from Pieng Jai Tee Pook Pun – He was super sweet and in reality he would be someone I consider to be a great committed lifetime partner. He’s not your typical praek who is stupid and weak but instead, he was faithful, kind and passionate throughout the whole lakorn. Yay for smart praeks!
Jeed from Duangjai Akkanee – She has everything I look for in a female lead, beauty, brains and a bit of sass.
Krachao from Bundai Dok Rak – She’s so girly girl yet very sweet and caring. I like how she’s doesn’t take shit from the praek and always challenges him.
Least favorite male/female character?
Oh get ready for a list!
Kongkai from Mia Taeng -He was a loser period. I don’t care for guys who sleeps around when he already has a wife. Cheating is a big no no in my book regardless of the circumstances.
Chat from Kaen Sanaeha – He is too hard stoned and it didn’t help that Son’s acting was very one dimensional. Chat has no likeable quality at all and it still baffles me how the nang aek had the heart to love him.
Pittiya from Raeng Pradtana – Indecisive, dishonest, weak you name it. I never understood his character and was annoyed with the way he handled the situations between him, Ravee and Thae. If he liked Thae all a long, he shouldn’t have started a relationship with Ravee and make her as a scapegoat. If he married Thae, he should respect Thae enough as his wife to remain distant from Ravee. All because of him and his indecisiveness, he emotionally destroyed the two most important women in his life.
Thae from Raeng Pradtana – She was one annoying, bratty, selfish, bipolar and shameless nang aek. She was all over the place, at one point she’s acting all high and mighty and the next she’s crying like a little girl because the praek wouldn’t marry her. She would go about to do things that would satisfy her needs only to realize that she made a mistake and wants forgiveness when the damage is done to no return. I never sympathized with her even until the end. Another minor detail is that the way Lakorn Thai styled Kimberley. She’s suppose to be a Hi So but instead of looking classy, to me she looked rather trashy. Majority of her outfits were a little too revealing and unsuitable for her body shape. Kim is a lot thicker compared to other girls so why would they give her clothes that emphasizes her worst features and makes her look more chubbier on screen? Even rich n’rai’s are dressed better than that.
Khao Horm from Ngao Ruk Luang Jai – She is the worst nang aek in lakorn history PERIOD! She’s slow, stupid, illogical, weak and blinded and the list goes on.
Pin’s Mom from Pin Anong – She constantly protected the villain who tried to hurt her daughter on more than one occasion. Her reasons for acting the way she is wasn’t acceptable for me. It’s one thing to repay kindness to your benefactor but it’s another to stand up for what’s right and wrong, especially when it concerns your own blood.
A lakorn character you’d like to be friends with in real life?
Jeed from Duangjai Akkanee, Krachao from Bundai Dok Rak because of similar personalities and Sanao from Sanao Barn Chao Khat Khao Ban Yen (She was put down throughout the lakorn but she still continues to shower everyone with pure kindness and at the end, all her work pays off. She reminds me Ling Ying from the TVB series Love is Beautiful just not as stupid lol. I didn’t find her to be too weak where I got annoyed like I do with most typical nang aeks. She was sincerely a good person).
A lakorn character you’d marry in real life?
As stated previously, Seau from Pieng Jai Tee Pook Pun or Kamote from Ploy Lom Phet.
Lakorns are full of psycho villains. Who makes your blood boil the most?
Probably Noi’s character in Ram Pissward. She purposely neglected and physically/emotionally abused her daughter all because of favouritism. As a mother, you should love and protect your kids equally.
A lakorn character that is most like you?
Probably Mattana from Maya Tawan. We’re both kinda clumsy, naïve at times but kind hearted and determined to accomplish what we want.
Most memorable lakorn confession?
Jeed and Fai’s love confessions in DJA. They’re so cheesy but oh so darn cute. Nadech and Yaya were oozing with chemistry and I couldn’t help but greeeed over these two.
Most memorable first meeting of the main couple?
Likasit and Mai in Likasit Huajai. They were both sitting beside each other on an airplane heading back to Thailand and Mai gets the impression that Likasit is a pervert because he keeps starring at her. They bicker and when Mai tries to get away, the airplane shakes and she falls on his lap twice. Haha! It was funny and entertaining.
Favorite lakorn ending?
Ka Neung Ha where all the 3 couples were together with their families at the beach. When Patson leans in to kiss Ning, his friends yells at him to get a room and they laugh it off.
Top 3 couples in a lakorn?
Monthai/Pbee (Ngao Asoke 1999), Poom/Yai (Ka Neung Ha) and to be decided lol.
Top 3 actor/actress pairing?
Generally: Willy/Mew, Noom/Kob, Tang/Mam
Of this generation: Nadech/Yaya
